The playground

They updated the playground in our neighborhood, so we took Owen to check it out. From his reactions, it's obvious that we're going to have to wait on this for a while. :)

Jumperoo Madness

Well, we caved and got Owen one of those eyesore 'jumperoos' with our last gift card. Since he wanted to stand so much, it takes over when our arms are tired. He likes it, and it cracks us up when he bounces, makes the music go off, and breaks into a big grin. We did have to slide a book underneath him though because his legs are not quite long enough!

Granna and Grandad came in for a quick visit before Granna's knee surgery. Since we have posted a picture of Grandad already, here's one of Granna to even the score!

Owen's been growing, and I've been setting aside the clothes that got to be too small. The weather warmed up this week, so we broke out a romper that almost didn't make it out in time. It's his Greco-Roman wrestler look. :)

We've also been working on those sitting muscles.

Lastly, we had a request for a newer bath picture, so here you go (including the towel monster!).

Spring Break

Happy Spring Break! Busy week again for us - playgroups, moms' night out, first portraits (be on the lookout for yours!), a baby shower, and we each had our turn with a cold/congestion. Luckily, by the time it got to Owen, he was able to get over it in just a day (as opposed to the week that I had it). Still sad to see him sniffling and gasping for breath those 24 hours though. So glad it wasn't more serious!

I met up with some friends for lunch, one of whom is expecting in a few weeks. Owen charmed them all with his bashful smiling and standing. My friend snapped this picture at the table.

Aunt Loni came by for a visit while she was in town!

Then we went for a walk in the beautiful sunshine with Owen turned around to face forward in the Bjorn for the first time. He did really well with it, and as usual, fell asleep halfway through the walk.
Luckily, we had a hat with a brim on it (thanks Oma!), so he wasn't bothered by the sun.

Crib Time

Three months old today! Owen spent the weekend sleeping in his crib for the first time. He had been in a bassinet in our room, but has been sleeping through the night for a while, so it seemed like time. Pretty exciting to move him to his own room. As you can see, he's got plenty of room to grow and he's working on his "Hook'Em Horns" too!

And he joined us for dinner at the table last night.

3-month weigh-in

On Monday, Owen is officially 3 months old! But, he doesn’t go back to the doctor’s office until his 4-month checkup, so I swung by to use their scale yesterday for an unofficial weigh-in. He’s been sleeping about 8 hours at night for the last several weeks, so I just wanted to be sure that he’s still gaining weight okay. Answer – he is! Unofficially, he tipped the scale at 13.4 lbs, which is more than 2 lbs gained in a month. His height was about 23 inches long.

In between all that sleep, he’s pretty active and vocal.

But, he can wind down pretty easily, too. Here’s reading time with Daddy before bed.

Just over 12 weeks

We’ve been trying out the Bumbo chair. For those that don’t know, the Bumbo is supposed to help them develop sitting muscles (and give them a place to sit) before they can do it on their own. He’s just recently been holding his head up well enough not to slump over the instant he’s in the chair.

And, I tried to take some pictures while holding him. He was just enjoying sitting in my lap, which is rare. Note his eyelashes in the close up! They’ve really come a long way from being invisible. :)

Goodbye Paycheck, Hello Perks

A bit of a busy week for us. I had a ‘meet the baby/going away’ party at work. Owen was very well-behaved and in and out of sleeping in people’s arms. He got lots of compliments on his beautiful blue eyes and his ‘healthy’ size. :) It was good to see everyone and have a chance to say good-bye, since I left kind of abruptly when Owen came 4 weeks early. Anyway, it’s official that I’m a full-time mom now. Here’s a happy pic of him playing with Daddy.

It does seem like he’s getting longer, as people have said. Here’s an outfit (thanks Oma!) that’s getting a little tight when he stretches his legs… (yes, it’s supposed to open at the knee like that)

And, here’s a video of him standing and even some walking, 2 of his new favorite activities.

Standing Tall

Owen's latest trick is to stand up while you are trying to burp him if you are sitting down. It makes him so happy to straighten up and look around! And he will do it for as long as either he or his holder can last.

He also sticks out his tongue a lot, as if requiring ultimate concentration.

And here he is snuggling up to his elephant pillow during a nap. :)
