Adventures in Food

Ever wonder what a baby could be dreaming about? Our suspicions of dreaming of food were confirmed in the following video I took after he passed out during what we call his 'milk coma'. Either that or he was trying to 'sleep-eat' (like sleepwalking).

In celebration for the holiday weekend, we decided to debut rice cereal! Very exciting for us: trying out the high chair, bib, bowl, and spoon concept for the first time. And, the good news is he gobbled it up!! The high chair is still a little big, so we'll use the bumbo for a while, I think.

Tickle Monster

Well, we know for sure that Owen is ticklish. The evidence is in this video (courtesy of my new laptop!). Although he didn't laugh quite as much as usual while the camera was rolling, there is still plenty of squirming and screaming, as well as an insightful conclusion. Enjoy!

Summer begins

Last weekend we took Owen to the pool for the first time. Here he is all decked out and ready to go (fancy swim speedo underneath)!

The water was a bit chilly, and he disliked sitting alone in his floatie, but once he was personally escorted around the pool, we think he actually enjoyed it.

We've also been introducing him to water in a sippy cup in preparation for solid foods! This has not been going over so well yet, but we're continuing to work on it. Stay tuned...

Jumperoo In Action

First, I have to say that this is such a great baby age! We've got a pretty good eat-play-sleep routine figured out, he's generally in a good mood, and we haven't ventured into any unsettling, new stuff like teeth or solid foods quite yet... Needless to say, we are enjoying this optimum time.

Below is the picture I sent in to the Texas Exes' Alcalde magazine for their 'Calf Corral' section. He's almost doing the 'horns, but I didn't think about it until after I took the picture. This is a little more like The Fonz. Anyway, hopefully, it will get published in the next issue or two, so keep an eye out.
And back to the Jumperoo... All I can say is that it makes him very happy and entertained long enough for me to finish my lunch! Don't miss the video sampling of his jumperoo action.

5 months old!

Ah, so much to blog about...

First, Oma and Opa returned to Ohio. We had a great visit, and I must confess that it was really fantastic to have built-in babysitters for a week! :)

Here's Opa doing the calming, grandfatherly walk around the room. Owen prefers to be in motion and checking out his surroundings rather than sitting and still. :)

Uncle Dan and Jennifer came in for the weekend. Owen loves when Dan plays the guitar. Hopefully, that will translate into some musical inclinations down the road...

Owen passed his 5-month milestone. We did another unofficial measurement and came up with a weight of 16.2 lbs and a length of 25.5 inches. Amazing progress looking back on older pictures... He looked really huge when we took him to visit a friend's newborn baby yesterday!
Sitting tall on Daddy's shoulders (previously using John's ears as reins).

Mother's Day

Happy belated Mother's Day to all the moms out there! I had a wonderful long weekend, which stretched into my birthday on Monday. Lots of visitors this week, here are some pictures, more to follow...

Me and my handsome boy on Mom's Day

Both sets of grandparents were in town to help celebrate both occasions. Here's a birthday lunch picture. (Owen's just off to the right; I promise we didn't leave him at home!)
And here's Owen helping me blow out the candles on my cake. Yea for cake!

Thumbsucker

After months of gnawing on his entire hand and continually rejecting just the thumb, we are starting to see signs that he will become a thumbsucker after all! It still seems kind of accidental at this point, but I think it will catch on.
A week ago, we got one of those squishy, expandable gym floor mats to soften up the hardwood floors. It has really come in handy, as you can see.

And here's an updated picture of Owen joining us at the dinner table. He lasted much longer this time - nearly the whole meal - before pleading with us to get out of the Bumbo! He really is sitting much better now, but still lists a little to one side, especially when focused on his toy.
