Happy 239th, America!

Well, I've been trying to figure out some issues with my new computer, new photo-editing program, and new camera, which I'm still working on.  In the mean time, I found a quick workaround, so I don't get too far behind. Happy birthday USA!  Owen was able to reprise his conspicuous flag polo shirt from last year, so he is pretty easy to pick out in the holiday photos.

We had a wonderful 4th celebrating with friends.  It was a beautiful, hot day, perfect for a parade.  We were able to meet up with friends at their family's excellent, parade-route office, which provides a semi-fenced, shaded, private-bathroomed location.  Love it!  And the kids loved collecting candy and high-fives from the 140+ floats and bands that went by.

Here are some of our minor league baseball players mugging for the cameras.  They have the worst record by far in the Pioneer League.  Go Chukars!

And Owen's favorite float was no shocker - the monster trucks, duh!

After the parade, we took a lunch break and naps and reconvened at a neighbor's house for a traditional hot dog and hamburger potluck dinner, water fun for the kids, and some classic (and not-so-classic) yard games for the adults. Kan Jam, anyone?  It was a blast, and the kids all got along together so well.

Once it started to get dark, we headed to the next office location for the big fireworks show from a safe, but clear-viewing distance.  I was prepared to head home with Hadley, since the show didn't start until 10 pm, but she was excited to see them, so we all got to see them together for the first time!  And they got to do sparklers for the first time, too, which they were hesitant about at first, but ended up loving.

The kids were tired, but they watched the entire 30 minute firework extravaganza.  There was actually a snafu this year, which led to several minutes of dark sky in the middle of the show, but then they supposedly set off 4 minutes' of fireworks in 15 seconds to catch back up to the music.  It looked pretty crazy for those 15 seconds!  Yea for the 'Thanksgiving of Summer' as a friend calls it.  (Don't ask why he's holding an H here. Awkward photo props...)
