August Visitors

After about 10 days on our own, we were blessed to have more visitors come to help us:  Oma and Grandpa!  Lots of pictures, so let's get going.  (I also misplaced my camera for a few days, so many of these are from my phone.  See if you can tell which is which.)

We broke them right in by accompanying us to Flips Gym.  There's Grandpa going down the big slide with Owen to the foam pit!

Owen's really enjoyed the extra attention, especially from Oma!  They have lots of fun making cookies, playing on boats (couches), building tents, and reading stories.

One Saturday was "attend the art museum for free" day, so we went to check it out.  The art was interesting, but they have a room specifically for kids, where Owen really enjoyed learning about artists, colors, and shapes.

Tired of paying $10 for a boys' haircut, I purchased some clippers to cut Owen's hair.  Oma showed me how it's done, and Owen was very cooperative once he had a lollipop in hand.  One more haircut, and these clippers have paid for themselves!  Woohoo!

Hadley is slowly becoming more awake and interactive.  I've gotten some smiles when she sees me, which almost makes the sleep deprivation worth it.  Ha!  (She goes an average of about 3 hours at night between feedings.)  But make no mistake, she still sleeps A LOT.

Did I mention that I love baby fingers and toes?  :)

Thanks for the skirt, Aunt Jenn!  It's very handy to dress up my onesies for a day on the town.  :)

Unlike her brother, Hadley doesn't seem to mind tummy time much at all.  In fact, she often just eventually goes to sleep.  (She does lift her head a lot; I just didn't get a picture of it.)

Speaking of sleep, Owen is not in his crib anymore!  I thought it would be terrible, but it's really been pretty good.  He's on a full mattress on the floor.  We had a week or so with both the crib and the bed in the same room for a slow transition, but we finally said good-bye to the crib and moved it into the nursery.  Granted, he stays up later now reading books and getting into everything in his room after we've put him to bed, but he's also put himself down for naps a couple of times, too.  The debate is still out on whether to keep the full or get him a twin bed down the line.

Owen's been a great big brother so far.  He likes to help by giving Hadley her pacifier when it falls out, pushing her swing to calm her, and talking in a baby voice "It's okay, Hadley!"  He is constantly requesting to hold her, which is so sweet.

Most contact is sweet, but there is much to learn about how to touch and handle a baby from a toddler's point of view.  Here's a poke while she was fussing, but note that she can dish it out, too, with a nose grab.  :)  Won't this be fun to observe as they grow up together?

Last time I reported on the mess he likes to make in his sand/water table by mixing the two.  Well, he decided to dip his head in the muck, and I had to document it.  He also had sand in his mouth, which for some reason, he doesn't seem to mind.  Yuck!

One afternoon, I left Hadley at home with the grandparents and took Owen to a playgroup in his friend Quentin's backyard.  There was plenty of dirt, paint, and water to go around, so Owen had a good time.  He really seemed to enjoy painting and ended the afternoon with green hair, paint on his torso, and dirt everywhere else.  I liken the last picture here to Lord of the Flies.  :)

Just love those blue eyes!

In other news, Hadley had her first tub bath.  She seemed to enjoy it until she had to get out of the water.  She doesn't like to be cold, but is fine once she's wrapped up in her towel again!

Owen attended a birthday party at the local toddler pool on Saturday.  He had a blast!  He didn't need any guidance from me on how to play in the water, and he didn't want to leave at the end either.  The sign of a great party.

He pretended not to know what to do with the pinata bat at first, but once I gave him the okay to hit the pinata, he really went to town!  Smack, smack, smack!  The party-goers laughed because it seemed so out of character for sweet, quiet Owen.  :)  Good aim and strength, but they had to eventually break out a wooden stick to conquer this pinata.
