This week was Owen's first at the big school as a kindergartener. I think he was a little anxious about giving up on summer, but not too worried about going to school. His favorite colors are orange, red and dark blue; favorite foods are dumplings or cherry tomatoes; and when I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up he said he wanted to be a dad that stayed home with his kids. :)
Finding friends in the line at school was a nice way to start off the adventure. We knew at least 4-5 classmates already, so that helped to get him excited about his new class.
I could tell that the size of the school was a little intimidating for him, but parents had to spend the first day (only an hour long) with kindergartners to ease the transition. I think that definitely helped!
We did a scavenger hunt to turn in our school supplies and find important things around the classroom. Then we had to complete a craft (lots of cutting!) to decorate the wall outside the class, and we were free to go.
The hour-long day was a little anti-climatic, but it did allow us to put our free frozen yogurt certificates from the summer library reading program to good use!
