Cool, Refreshing Water

The warm spring seems to be leading into a scorching summer!  Our forecast this week is all highs of 95+F, which is very unusual here, especially this early in the summer.  To help us keep our cool, we've been staying near the water, like at Pocatello's Ross Park. (H is in red, O is in grey/blue/white.)

Both kids have also been in swim lessons this past (and upcoming) week.  I wasn't really sure how Hadley would handle the lesson, since she doesn't like to put her face in the water.  I put her in Owen's class hoping that it would be the extra motivation that Owen needed to pass on to the next class level.  So far, so good!  The instructor actually remembered Owen from last summer and has been having him demonstrate things for the rest of the class, and he's been very good at comforting, encouraging, and guiding Hadley to do what was needed.  Win-win!

They were both very proud of themselves for going off the diving board, too.

Bonus: they're in a swim class with several of their friends, so that has made it lots of fun, as well. Post-class towel hug!

A couple of weeks ago, we were introduced to "Gem Lake", which is neither a gem nor a lake.  Discuss.  Ha!  It's actually a protected "beach" on the Snake River about 5 minutes from our house.  It's pretty equivalent to Rigby Lake and Blacktail Lake, which are both about 30 minutes away, but it's free and so close!!  Yea!  The kids had a great time, and we were there for hours and hours.

There was much discussion and planning (and even fighting) over the creation of this mud hole.  Boys take their dirt play very seriously.

While the boys could have rolled around in the sand all day, the girls eventually retired to the shaded comfort of their umbrellas for more snacks.  Owen actually didn't even eat lunch until we got home.  He was having so much fun, he refused to stop to eat!  And Hadley may have eaten most of his lunch, while it was sitting there waiting for him...

All of this activity hopefully leads to this, which makes it worth it. :)
